You're not alone.
I spend all my time at sea to pay for my home, my kids, my car, and boat and then when I get to spend time there I never get to enjoy it. Also, because I am gone a lot everyone seems to despise me. I would like to be home, but I need to sail to pay for stuff. Which is stuff I don’t really need but at least I get to enjoy it some times.
I may hate going to sea, but sometimes I have found myself hating being at home and just “running away” to sea. I stall and evade until I can just go to sea and leave them all behind. The problems are always waiting for me when I am home though.
I sometimes feel like I have no life when I get home. I don’t know many people, it’s hard to stay in touch with people when I am home, and I don’t have a lot to do. I often find myself spending all my time with my significant other or just drinking and watching TV. I’d like to do something more meaningful, but don’t know where to start.
I was tortued by my chief engineer, once. He hated me the second I walked on board. Everything I did was wrong. He isolated me from the rest of the crew and I would have trouble sleeping being so worried about what the next day would bring.
I hate sailing. I have wanted to quit for years, but I have become too accustomed to the money and don’t know what I’d do if I went shoreside.
